A woman has died after being struck by a drunk driver on the Katy Freeway.

The accident occurred on I-10 between Dairy Ashford and Kirkwood Road at approximately 3 A.M on Saturday night, according to officials.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was driving her white Toyota Sedan eastbound on the Katy Freeway, with her cousin and a friend in the car. The woman had pulled over to help her friend who was sick in the backseat.

The accident occurred when a man in a white coupe swerved outside of the main lanes, striking the driver in her back and fatally injuring her. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The other passengers were not injured, though the woman that was ill was transported to Ben Taub Hospital and has been reported to be in stable condition.

The at-fault driver was taken to Memorial Hermann hospital in Katy and was reported to have suffered minor injuries. The Harris County District Attorney’s office stated that the drunk driver was charged with intoxication manslaughter.
