At least one person has been injured following an 18-wheeler accident that occurred in a construction zone. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, at about 5 p.m.

Officials say that at the time of the accident, an 18-wheeler was driving southbound on Eldridge Road, south of the Katy Freeway, when the driver swerved into a construction zone to avoid hitting another vehicle. The truck, a waste-management vehicle, cashed through construction barriers and drove into a hole. The vehicle fell grill-first into the hole, which was about 20-30 feet deep.

At the time of the collision, the construction workers managing the site were at a different area of the site, so none of them were injured. The driver of the 18-wheeler was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
