One person is dead and two others were injured following a wrong way car crash in Lake Jackson. The accident occurred early this morning, at about 1:35 a.m., on Highway 332 near Elm Street.

The DPS reported that at the time of the crash, a Lake Jackson deputy working for the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department was driving northbound on SH-332, while a driver manning a Ford was going the wrong way. The deputy attempted to avoid the wrong way driver, but was unable to do so, and they crashed head-on.

The driver of the Ford was Life Flighted to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Their passenger, a male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The deputy was also injured. A third vehicle struck the patrol unit after the initial collision. The driver of that vehicle was not injured.

Police are still working to investigate the cause of the crash and determine whether or not alcohol or substances were involved.
